FolkenPhünk is an acoustic trio formed by Dave Brumberg (The Brummy Brothers) on upright bass, guitar and vocals and Lowell Neumann Nickey on guitar and vocals in 2016. In late 2017 they were joined by Edwin Lightner (Fennarios Wolf) on Mandolin. Together they play a variety of original music and covers drawing upon influences from American and Irish Folk Music, Psychedelic Rock and Roll, Bluegrass, Blues and even modern rock and pop music. Hailing from Frenctown, NJ, Philadelphia, PA and Annapolis, MD, respectively they are willing to play anywhere and anything. FolkenPhünk have already put down many miles of pavement, bringing their unique brand of acoustic music to fans in the Mid-Atlantic, Northern Appalachian and Northeastern Mid-West regions.
You never know exactly what you'll get at a FolkenPhünk show, from mashups of familiar rock, pop, and bluegrass tunes to special guests including Russell Gottlieb (Deadgrass, The Brummy Brothers) on banjo, or Chris Blauciak (Hambone) on percussion. No matter what they play or who shows up, good music is guaranteed!
"What Folkenphunk does superbly is making acoustic music for people who might not be hardcore bluegrass fans. [They] adapt and stylize material into an original and interesting hybrid sound. A typical set will combine songs from the Grateful Dead, Chuck Berry, Zak Brown, and the traditional Irish music songbook into a singular experience that leaves fans talking for days." - Mike O'Cull for Indie Band Guru
