ABOUT ABOUT

Bill Gottshall Music Presents
The Time Travelers Band
“Back to 1969” Theme Show

Bill Gottshall Music will present another themed show at The Underground, on Friday, July 19th and Saturday, July 20th, when his band, The Time Travelers, will present “Back to 1969.” The song line-up will be drawn from tunes which were recorded or released in 1969 or were performed at the original Woodstock Music Festival, which took
place 50 years ago this summer. The year 1969 was a pivotal one in the history of Rock. The Woodstock Festival was a touchstone for a generation
which had grown up with Rock ‘n Roll, but was now seeing the art form greatly expand as folk musicians, blues players, and even jazz musicians fused their musical styles with Rock. The Woodstock line-up perfectly demonstrated
this new diversity of musical styles which were beginning to blend into Rock: folk artists Joan Baez, Tim Hardin, and Arlo Guthrie performed on the first day of the festival, followed, on Day Two, by rock bands that included The Who, The Grateful Dead, and Santana. The Jazz-Rock band, Blood, Sweat & Tears, performed, as did Sly & the Family Stone, and a brand new group, named Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. But there was plenty more taking place in popular music in 1969. The Beatles “Yellow Submarine” and “Abbey Road” albums were both on the charts that year. They were joined by albums from other powerhouse British bands that year: The Rolling Stones’ “Let it Bleed,” Led Zeppelin’s “Led Zeppelin II,” and The Who’s “Tommy” were all charting in
1969. Here in the US, The Doors, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Beach Boys, and even Elvis Presley all released albums. All in all, it was an exciting year for popular music, making for a great weekend of entertainment at The Underground! The show begins at 8:00 PM and will run until about 10:30 PM. Tickets are $19 per person. Saturday’s show will feature an expanded roster of musicians. Brass players, Peter Neu (trumpet) and Brian Pastor (trombone) will join
The Time Travelers Band that night only, as the group performs Jazz-Rock hits by Chicago; Blood, Sweat & Tears; and Sly & the Family Stone. While tickets are available at the door, several of the band’s past shows at The Underground were sold-out.

On June 17, Time Travelers Band’s guitarist, Mark Walsh, died, at his home. This sudden and unexpected loss is a shock to the band members and to the hundreds of fans who heard Mark perform over the past 40 years. Time Travelers Band dedicates this upcoming performance to the memory of Mark Walsh. The idea for this particular themed show, “Back to 1969,” was Mark’s and the band intends to make him proud of their effort. Please come out to join us celebrate Mark’s musical career and the life of this wonderful person.
